The English Cities Fund was created by the government to identify and break through the barriers to institutional investment and pave the way for higher levels of private investment in the re-shaping of our towns and cities. It is a joint venture between Muse Developments, Legal & General Property and the Homes & Communities Agency and has pioneered major regeneration schemes in Liverpool, Salford, Wakefield, Canning Town and Plymouth.

In Salford, the fund is bringing forward the £650 million Salford Central regeneration scheme, which is transforming over 50 acres of the city's civic and historic centre into a vibrant and attractive new community and commercial hub. The key elements include Chapel Street - a new high quality environment for living and working with a collection of shops, cafés and leisure opportunities at the heart of Salford - and New Bailey, an exciting new extension to Manchester's Central Business District. The scheme is transforming the local environment and enhancing communities by creating new homes, improving public spaces and bringing hundreds of jobs into the area.

Over the past few years, Salford Central has delivered 133 new homes at Vimto Gardens and Timekeepers Square, a Premier Inn hotel, the One New Bailey office development, an NCP multi-storey car park and ground floor retail space which is home to innovative dining concept Menagerie, independent Italian restaurant Vero Moderno and a Co-op convenience store.

In total the scheme will deliver three million square feet of new development which will further bring the area to life with hundreds of new homes, public spaces, restaurants, bars and workspaces.
